About the Author
Malcolm Boyd is the best-selling author of 29 books. Among them, Are You Running With Me Jesus?, As I Live and Breathe: Stages of an Autobiography, Free to Live, Free to Die, Christian: Its Meaning in an Age of Future Shock, and Take Off the Masks.
The New York Times Book Review describes his work as "provocative, witty, and highly entertaining." The Christian Century says, "Boyd is a prophet for our times." Publishers Weekly noted of this book when it first appeared, "Boyd is lighter, brighter, and fresher than he has ever appeared before in print."
A three-term president of PEN Center USA West, and an Episcopal priest for more than 50 years, Boyd spent his formative years in Hollywood where he was the Production Partner of Mary Pickford in PRB, Inc., and President of the Television Producers Association of Hollywood.
Gay Elder, Freedom Rider, Civil Rights and Antiwar Activist, he stood with Martin Luther King, Jr., on February 6, 1968, in a nonviolent protest against the Vietnam War. Interested in Boyd as a champion of humanity, Look magazine featured him in their cover story, "Ten prominent Americans and their key to Peace of Mind," along with Duke Ellington, Joan Baez, Bill Moyers and Margaret Mead.
In 2005, Boyd received the prestigious Unitas Award from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. The citation read: "Poet, priest, pioneer; for his activism in the Civil Rights movement; for his lasting influence as a role model for gay clergy; and for his best selling spiritual classic, Are You Running with Me, Jesus?"
