About the Author

The Rev. Nancy Roth is an Episcopal priest, retreat leader, author, dancer, and musician. Her work as a resource person in the area of spirituality draws on her many interests: the integration of body and spirit, the contemplative tradition of prayer, the arts, and the relationship of Christian faith and ethics to environmental issues.

Her training has included studying piano at the Juillliard School of Music Pre-College Division, receiving a B.A. with a major in music from Oberlin College and an M.Div. cum laude from the General Theological Seminary, and life-long training in ballet and other forms of dance and exercise. She was ordained to the Episcopal priesthood in 1981.

While living in New York, she was Christian Education Consultant at Trinity Church, Wall Street; taught meditation classes for performing artists at Manhattan Plaza; and served as Program Coordinator and Elderhostel Director at Holy Cross Monastery, West Park, NY.

Now living in Oberlin, Ohio, she is an Affiliate Scholar at Oberlin College and Assisting Priest at Christ Episcopal Church, Oberlin. She travels widely as a retreat conductor and workshop leader. She is a faculty member of the CREDO project, a week-long wellness program for clergy, and an associate of the Contemplative Project, sponsored by the Foundation for the Meditative Process. She has served as Chaplain for the Spouses of the Bishops of the Episcopal Church.

She is the author of more than a dozen books, which can be seen on her website, http;//www.revnancyroth.org. Among them are Organic Prayer: A Spiritual Gardening Companion; The Breath of God; An Invitation to Christian Yoga; Spiritual Exercises: Joining Body and Spirit in Prayer; and a series of meditations on hymn texts. She and her husband Robert, a church musician, collaborated in editing We sing of God: a Hymnal for Children.

The Roths have two grown children: Christopher, a writer, editor, and organic gardener, and Michael, a professional violinist, who, with his wife Sarah, a cellist, has provided the Roths with two grandchildren, Gabriel and Anna.
