Fourteen
The ego is like a bat.
The mind? Its poor attempt
at sonar.
The bat bounces sonar off its surroundings
to determine where it is in relation
to life and the world.
The ego continually
enlists the mind
to do the same.
For lack of a better term,
we’ll call this mind bouncing:
endless self–referencing.
What do I think of this? of that?
Is this getting me what I want?
Are people here noticing me
Appreciating me?
He drives a Porsche;
but I’m more spiritual.
Flap, flap, flap.
Like a bat,
the ego is always homing in
on whatever it can consume or hang on to.
Its view of life and the world
turns everything upside down.
Were it to stop hanging itself up like this
the mind couldn’t take off.
It would stop flying around. |
